Italian Chronology Famous roman industrial building built on via Tiburtina in 1902, from the architect Satti’s project, with a structure similar to the residential buildings. Built according to an architectural plan of buildings all identical and attracted by any kind of artist e you’ll have Cerere. Born in an area forgotten by the town and meant to be devoted to the rail station crew, this Building has been known as an area where there is the bigger concentration of artists from the south Europe. The building is near the Termini station complex. The San Lorenzo district where the building is located, is between the ancient walls of Porta Labicana and the huge Verano cemetery. Its shape has been obtained in 1879 because of the nearby railyard that caused the development of small industries In 1931, the entire area felt in a profound economic crisis that reached the peak with the world war two. This experience has left profound traces on the houses and the neighbourhood had many victims from the bombing The bombs of the allies in July 1943, has reduced the quarter into ruins and many died under those ruins. Many edifices still make us think of that disaster. One of those edifices is the ex Pastificio Cerere. Born as a bakery industry but after its shutting down, the building has been abandoned until a group of artist decided to live and work there. "Tendenze" -Officina Cerere- by Alberto de Filippis | |
