Structures of control, the installation that Valentino has achieved for Domestica, has been a great example of lucidity and ability of synthesis.

With a few and banal elements. Cardboard box taken from the supermarket and gathered. He has cacreated a piece of a unspecified city landscape.
He has then built a staircase just on the income of the gallery, as to make the visitor forced to go up and enter in the space, and once over he could have a panoramic view of the city

The horizon of the new atmosphere is indicated by a neon strip, that obviously induce to a rather typical city brightness, as suggested by another neon decreased inside one of the palaces .

There is also a soundtrack, a series of sounds and noises essentially created by electrical guitar and objects that only sometimes emulate the sounds of the city, often moving freely themselves in order to create a carpet of sonorous feelings rather alienated.

Valentino immediately hits the centre of the matter, he doesn’t look for an alibi for the lost of private, showing the theatre of the daily life with its incongruous casualness. The city becomes the paradigm of the lost of privacy, but also becomes the only place where it is possible to find it.

Before letting us to go down among the constructions, he gives us a privileged point of view from an high position so that we can have a feeling of real dominion on the place that ovbviously desappeares when, moving ourselvers among the constructions, we recognize them for what they are: cardboard box like a game for children. We have a strong feeling of fragility and a strange and unexpected anxiety that is present in our thoughts when we go up the staircase come back into the real city.

Text of Raffaele Gavarro for the installation "Structures of control"
