Italian 'Why ?' 
Mariana Ferratto - Luana Perilli - Luca Viccaro Inaugurazione: giovedì 20 ottobre, ore 18 Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, Via degli Ausoni,7 - ROMA 
Why? An exhibition curated by Cecilia Casorati opens on Thursday 20th October, 18h00 at the Fondazione Pastificio Cerere in Rome. This exhibition is promoted and organized by the gallery apart and makes the most of the fitting Fondazione gallery premises for the intimate, solo exhibitions of three young artists: Mariana Ferratto, Luana Perilli and Luca Viccaro. These works were specifically created for this exhibition and despite their diversity the ‘light’ and consciously ironic languages employed reveal a common approach. Cecilia Casorati writing in the catalogue (published by Johan & Levi): “The most striking and charming quality of the works by Mariana Ferratto, Luana Perilli and Luca Viccaro lies precisely in their irony”. Laughing is such a rare commodity in the art world, because irony or just plain humour is considered the opposite of the seriousness and significance required for creating art. This is the myth that these artists, together with a few more of their generation and predecessors, endeavour to counter. Thanks to their “light” approach, the exaggerated humour and the apparent (and even spectacular) lack of profound meanings, Ferratto, Perilli and Viccaro’s work present seemingly comfortable and welcoming places where even fun is possible. Although the amusing and ironic elements are the first things to grab any onlooker’s attention, they are not however the main aim of the three young artists’ research. These elements contribute to their distinctive way of expressing – and showing – how they relate to the rest of the world, defining worries, doubts and even hardships with a lighter touch.” Mariana Ferratto presents her video work, Luana Perilli her video installation and sculptures and Luca Viccaro exhibits his light boxes, a photograph and sculpture.
